Alice in Wonderland Alexander Knaifel 1943
The Russian composer Alexander Knaifel has been fascinated by the Alice tales of Lewis Carroll for almost his entire life. He began initial work on an opera on this subject almost twenty years ago. In Knaifel's interpretation, every character from the books takes part. His intention is not to provide a continuous narrative structure or a fairytale with music, but rather to convey the essence and basic concepts of the Alice stories in music. The score is loaded with stage directions and visual and musical special effects. |
